Man found dead on Chennai metro track

The man climbed down to the track unquestioned and started walking on the elevated rail track towards Trisulam railway station.

Chennai: In a first case of death on the metro rail track, two years after its inauguration, a 35-year-old man walked a few meters on the tracks and jumped before a train near Trisulam station, on Friday night.

CCTV grabs from the Meenambakkam metro rail station shows a man clad in a checked shirt alighting from a metro rail that reached Meenambakkam from Alandur at 7 pm.

Although the norms do not permit commuters to sit inside a metro station for long, the man in checked shirt is seen sitting on a bench until late night unquestioned by security personnel posted to check these kinds of violation.

The man climbed down to the track unquestioned and started walking on the elevated rail track towards Trisulam railway station. The airport police acquired the CCTV footages from the metro stations, after they received a call from Trisulam metro station saying that a man’s body was found on the rail track at the end of the station, towards Meenambakkam at around 10.45 pm.

The police rushed to the spot and retrieved the man’s body, with checked shirt. “No injuries were found in the man’s upper body, but both the legs were crushed,” police said.
