Hyderabad: In a bid to get his wife to pass the Telangana State Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) on Sunday, K. Parandamaiah, a school assistant and qualified teacher, tried to help her by attempting the eligibility test himself.
The district education officer who was doing the rounds at the exam centre in the Government Girls High School, Wanaparthy, recognised Mr Parandamaiah and enquired why was he writing the exam despite being a qualified teacher. On closer inspection, it was found that although Mr Parandamaiah’s OMR sheet was not marked, he had marked all the answers in his question paper.
Mr Parandamaiah is working as a school assistant at Zilla Parishad High School in Remoddula village in Pangal mandal of Wanaparthy district. His wife Swapna alias Vijaylak-shmi had also applied for the TET examination and was seated in an adjoining room to where the accused was seated.
Mr Suseendra Rao, the DEO said, “We are guessing that since their plan of being seated in the same classroom did not work, he marked his question paper to give it to his wife when they both would come out to drink water. He said that they had planned to leave the classes together at 1 pm for a break. When questioned, Mr Parandamaiah said that he attempted the exam to increase his knowledge. However, there was something suspicious and after some time he admitted to his plan. I have suspended him from service as a case has been booked against him.”
The accused allegedly claimed to leave the ex-am hall in a distraught manner but the DEO did not fall for the ploy and delved deeper eventually finding out that the wife was sitting in the next room. Mr Parandamaiah was in Room No. 9 and his wife was in Room No. 10.
After getting caught, both husband and wife were made to sit at the staff room till the police arrived after which a case was registered against them. Wanaparthy police station SI, Nagasekhara Reddy said, “A case of malpractice has been booked under the Public Service Exams Act.” The suspects have been apprehended for questioning.
