Drunk hurls stone at St Antony’s Church
Secunderabad: A drunken man caused commotion in Mettuguda, Secunderabad, by hurling stones at the St Anthony’s Church during Tuesday services when a large number of devotees from across the state congregate for the services, including people from other faiths.
In the early hours of Monday morning, around 3:50 a.m., an inebriated beggar
hurled a stone into the church premises, damaging St Anthony's statue. The parish priest, Rev. Dr V.K. Swami, ruled out a communal angle while stating
that the person was identified as a beggar who sleeps on the nearby pavement. A lot of childless couples visit St Anthony's Church with the belief that if they pray for a child, they are blessed with one, the priest said. “A beggar who was drunk who was throwing stones on the fellow beggars who were sleeping on the pavement at Mettuguda, along with one of the stones he pelted into the church premises,” said Naresh, SHO, Chilkalguda. The police arrested the accused.
