VRO Caught Red-Handed Taking Rs 6,000 Bribe in Rajamahendravaram
KAKINADA: Rajamahendravaram range Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught a village revenue officer (VRO) red-handed while he was taking a bribe of Rs.6,000 from a farmer on Saturday.
The VRO, identified as P. Venkata Suryanarayana of Bandanapudi, was arrested after the farmer, Venkatesh of Chelluru village in Rayavaram mandal, complained to the ACB.
According to Director General of Police K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, Venkatesh had applied for mutation of his agricultural land at Bandanapudi village in Kajuluru mandal. The VRO demanded a bribe of Rs.6,000 for processing the file.
Venkatesh dialed the ACB's 14400 call centre and informed the officials, who set a trap for Suryanarayana. The ACB officials caught Suryanarayana red-handed while he was accepting the bribe from Venkatesh.
Suryanarayana will be produced before the ACB Court.
DGP Reddy urged people to use the ACB's call centre if they face any harassment or are asked for bribes by government officials.
