Salem: Municipal corporation officials seized about 600 kilograms of banned plastic products following surprise checks at various premises here on Saturday.The civic body had banned production and sales of plastic products weighing below 40 microns and had warned against illegal sales.
Meanwhile, on a tip-off, a team led by corporation Health officer V Prabakaran conducted surprise checks at Sevvaipettai area today and seized about 600 kilograms of banned plastic products from a godown. After visiting the spot, corporation commissioner R Sathish said that even after warnings some people continued to sell plastic products weighing below 40 microns. He said that severe legal action would be initiated against traders and manufacturers, who failed to abide by the municipal body’s order.
