Accident Victim's Body Kept in Morgue for Three Weeks
Hyderabad: Family members of a 25-year-old Sravan Kumar, who went missing under the Chaderghat police limits, were left devastated after learning that he had died in a road accident around three weeks back.
A missing complaint was lodged with the Chaderghat police on December 11 but it was only on Saturday that the family was informed about the fatal accident, which incidentally, took place within the same police limits.
All this while, the body lay in the morgue at the Osmania General Hospital. The family staged a protest at the Chaderghat police station against the delay in handing over the body.
Sravan Kumar, a resident of Shankarnagar, had left home for work on December 6 but did not return. Police said his family lodged a missing complaint on December 13.
Sravan’s relatives alleged that despite making several visits to the police station, there was no update about his whereabouts. Police told them that an unidentified person had died in an accident on December 7 but, unlike the usual practice, did not share details.
It was only after much persuasion that the police told the family about the body. The family was shocked to find that the unclaimed body was of Sravan.
Although, after a week’s wait, the bodies are disposed of, in this instance, the police claim that they had requested the morgue officials to preserve it.
Chaderghat station house office Y. Prakash Reddy said that since no identity proof was found on him and as he did not have a mobile phone. Meanwhile, even after three weeks since the accident and it being captured on CCTV, the vehicle remains untraced.
