Visakhapatnam: Annavaram police arrested Voolangi Raja Rao, a 49-year-old resident of Alagaam village, near Lothugedda bridge in Chintapalli mandal of ASR district on Saturday after they recovered from him a substantial amount of ganja.
Police said Raja Rao going on a motorcycle tried to evade police who had kept a vigil. Post detention, he confessed to his involvement in illicit business of ganja over an extended period.
Police seized 7,227 grams of liquid ganja from Raja Rao and a substantial amount of cash, all worth Rs.23.5 lakh, apart from a motorcycle, a keypad mobile, a liquid ganja-making iron machine, and a small weighing machine used in the trade.
The accused, a resident of Alagaam village, has been remanded to custody. Police are on the lookout for Raja Rao’s associates Arjun and Raju, who are absconding.
