Man Allegedly Thrashes Mother Over Alleged Cauliflower Theft

Bhubaneswar: A man hailing from Champur in Odisha’s Keonjhar district allegedly thrashed his mother suspecting her to have stolen a cauliflower in Odisha. Not only this, the man also reportedly tied his mother to an electric pole outside his house.

The shocking incident has been reported from Saraspasi village.

The matter came to light after a photograph of the elderly woman tied to the electric pole went viral on social media.

The victim, Subhadra Mahant is now undergoing treatment at Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC).

“My younger son thrashed me for stealing cauliflower. After beating me, he tied me to an electric pole. As my son also beats his wife, she did not dare to rescue me,” alleged Subhadra.

As per initial reports, Subhadra was brutally beaten up by her younger son Shatrughan. No official police complaint has been lodged in connection with the inhuman act. Subhadra’s husband died some 10 years ago. She was staying with her elder son Karuna who also died from some unknown disease.

Subhadra’s younger son Satrughan was staying separately with his wife.

It is alleged that Shatrughan got furious after someone stole a cauliflower from his field. Suspecting it to be his mother, he allegedly thrashed her.

Dr Abhijit Dixit of Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) said, “The woman was admitted here on December 20; she is under treatment as she is still experiencing pain.”
