Hyderabad: Burglars have broken into as many as 24 houses and eight offices in the last two days in both Rachakonda and Cyberabad Commissionerates.

Burglars in the early hours of Wednesday broke into nine houses and eight offices in a residential-cum commercial area in Chandrapuri Colony and fled with nine tolas of gold and goods worth Rs 9 lakh. The burglars broke the locks of four offices and four houses in street no. 2 in the Chandrapuri Colony. They managed to get four tolas of gold from a house that was locked.

Similarly, they also broke into five more houses and three offices on street no. 5 in the same colony and decamped with four tolas of gold, L B Nagar police said.

L B Nagar police said that the burglars stole 20 tolas of gold, 25 tolas of silver ornaments, a laptop, and two mobile phones worth over Rs 10 lakh and Rs 2.85 lakh cash.

The CCTV footage has captured two persons aged around 40, police informed.

“One of the house owners is currently in Chennai. When contacted, he said that he had kept around four tolas of gold in his house. So far, we have not received any complaint,” said inspector B. Anji Reddy adding that fingerprints from the crime scene have been collected and further investigation is on.

“I did not lodge a complaint as there was nothing in my office, I have only informed the police about the incident,” said K. Anil Rao, who runs a software company in a rented portion of street no. 2 of Chandrapuri Colony said.

“The burglars stole 10 tolas of gold from my house while I was out of station along with my family,” said Madhurima, a housewife who lives on street no. 2 of Chandrapuri Colony.

Rachakonda police commissioner held a meeting with the zonal heads and IT cell teams concerned and instructed them to take up the case on priority. Six special teams have been formed and are working under the direction of D.S. Chauhan.

These burglaries resemble 16 burglaries that occurred on January 23 in Kukatpally where the burglars broke into locked houses in Dayarguda Colony, Kerala Basti, and Devi Nagar and fled with Rs 10,000 cash, silver chains, and a laptop.
