Mumbai burglars posing as domestic helps held for SR Nagar robbery
HYDERABAD: The SR Nagar Police arrested two women and recovered gold ornaments weighing 120 tolas that were stolen from businessman B. Ram Narayan’s residence in Shantibagh Lane on April 4, the police said.
Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, after perusing footage from 200 CCTV cameras, identified the thieves as Mahadevi Rajesh Kalal alias Sunitha, and Pooja Suresh Sakat of Chembur Ghatla in Mumbai. They used to pose as domestic helpers and rob or burgle houses.
Sunitha started working at the businessman’s house on April 2, and on April 4, when the businessman and his wife had gone out, she threw chilli powder into the businessman’s parents’ eyes and made off with gold ornaments weighing 150 tolas kept in a safe.
The police, after scanning footage and conducting surveillance, arrested the duo from the Sanathnagar Bus Stop.
According to Anand, an investigation revealed that the duo was involved in similar incidents in the districts of Maharashtra and Bengaluru. They came to the city in March and began scouting for employment in posh localities.
Besides, Anand said that three aides, Rubina, Adil and Muzaffar, to whom they had given 30 tolas of gold, were at large.
