55% drug accused are women: C V Anand
Hyderabad: Appealing to the student community to make the state drugs-free, Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand on Sunday said that 55 per cent of accused in drug cases were women and girls.
Anand was interacting with students to create awareness to prevent drug abuse on the eve of International Day Against Drug Abuse, event at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University.
The TS Anti-Narcotics Bureau, in collaboration with fine arts students of the University of Hyderabad and JNTU, adorned the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University’s campus wall with visuals and messages, serving as a visual reminder of the perils of drug abuse.
Anand, director of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau, explained to students the underlying themes and the artwork. He appreciated them for channelling their creativity and passion into a powerful medium of expression to create awareness.
“Telangana is one of the few states in India which has a separate narcotics bureau to focus on narcotics enforcement. This bureau, formed a month ago, will enforce all anti-narcotics laws across the state,” said Anand.
