Hyderabad: A bridegroom and eight others were arrested by the police for allegedly organising obscene dance at a marriage reception last week in the city. Three others involved in the case are absconding.
The police said that the marriage of Yahya Bin Salam Bahamed, 37, a businessman from Barkas, was solemnised on Thursday last at a function hall in Bandlaguda. Two days later, during his reception held at Noori Palace Function Hall, a property endowed with the TS Wakf Board, the 'walima' (reception) was organised.
“During the reception a few relatives of the bridegroom had organised a music and dance programme. Russian dancers brought in from Mumbai and Delhi had performed obscene dances at the reception to the music played by the DJ's and orchestra," said deputy commissioner of police (south) V. Satyanarayana.
The videos of the dances, including a belly dance performance, went viral on social media prompting the police to initiate action and arrest them.
“At 11.30 pm a police party went to the spot and stopped the music. When the team left, it resumed again," the officer said.
The police were caught off guard about the dance performance by various artistes from Mumbai and Delhi till the next day when videos surfaced on social media. Soon the police, who initially registered a case under Section 188 of IPC, added two more Sections 294 (Obscene Act in Public Place) and 370 (Buying or disposing of any person as a slave) of Indian Penal Code.
The police said that one Mohd Zeb Chowdhary, the main agent, of Meera Road Mumbai, had arranged the Russians performers for the function. He is absconding,
A few agents, including one Russian, Ramesh Babu, a sub-agent from the city who had contacted his Mumbai counterparts and arranged the Russian women, were nabbed. The police arrested the manager of the function hall. The arrested people were produced before the court and remanded to custody.
According to sources, several agents who are arranging the dancers for obscene performances are spread over the city. The function hall managers and event managers maintain their list and put their customers in touch with them.
