Hyderabad: 5-year-old beaten by teacher for disobeying
Hyderabad: Five-year-old K Ratna Vardhan Reddy was beaten on his palms with a stick by his Mathematics teacher because the little boy did not recite the numbers written on the blackboard. The incident took place on Thursday at NRI Talent School, Balanagar. Both the principal and the teacher are allegedly absconding following the incident.
No police case has been booked against the school or the teacher so far. The boy had blood stains on his arms and the incident came to light when his father K. Prathap Reddy noticed it.
Speaking to this newspaper, the father said, “My elder son is studying in class 1 and the younger one in UKG, both in the same school at Balanagar. Earlier, my older son did complain about school teachers beating him for homework. When Ratna Vardhan returned from school on Thursday, he was crying in pain. When we tried coaxing him, I found blood stains on his hands. He confessed that his Maths teacher Paritala Sunitha beat him because he did not repeat the numbers on the blackboard along with his classmates.”
The student’s father brought the incident to the notice of the teacher and the principal. The principal assured him that action would be initiated against the teacher. The parents were asked to visit the school again on Monday. When this correspondent visited the school in Balanagar, it was locked.
When this newspaper tried to contact the teacher, she did not take calls. Her residence was also locked up. A child rights activist, however, managed to get in touch with the teacher. The teacher allegedly called it a common practice and said she even beat her own children. She added that children could not study if they were not frightened.
