Hyderabad: Raids find flaws at post offices
Hyderabad: Central Bureau of Investigation officials along with the vigilance wing of the postal department on Thursday conducted surprise checks on post offices across the city and found irregularities in the exchange of demonetised notes with new notes.
According to sources, CBI officials conducted checks at the General Post Office in Abids and four other posts offices, at Khairatabad, Sanatnagar, Trimulgherry and Himayatnagar.
Officials found that Rs 40 lakh worth new currency had been allegedly exchanged with old currency at the Himayatnagar branch fraudulently.
Rs 40 lakh exchange comes to light
The checks were conducted in Hyderabad following information that the staff were colluded with black money hoarders to convert demonetised notes into white.
A source said, “At Himayatnagar, the involvement of certain senior staff is being probed in a suspected irregularity related to Rs 40 lakh exchanged for one person.”
City senior superintendent of post offices K. Sudheer Babu said, “CBI teams visited the Khairatabad head post office, Hyderabad GPO, and the Sanatnagar and Himayatnagar post offices to check the cash exchange process as a routine exercise. They have not found any irregularities. There are reports of some irregularities at the Himayatnagar post office, but nothing has been confirmed. It was a routine vigilance visit by CBI teams at post offices.”
