Visakhapatnam: The venue for the dangerous sport of illegal bike racing have shifted from Vizag city to ghat roads near Lammasingi, Tajangi, Ananthagiri and Araku areas in Vizag agency ahead of New Year during the weekends. The youngsters have preferred the ghat roads for racing during the winter season as the police vigil is very low in those areas. The illegal activity of racing has been causing much trouble to other motorists.
Posing as tourists from parts of Vizag city, the youngsters have resumed the illegal bike racings on the ghat-roads and few other stretches nearby Lammasingi areas during the night and wee hours in the weekends. We have been appealing the tourists not to indulge in such dangerous driving on the ghat-roads and foggy weather conditions as the illegal sport may turn tragic says V Raju, native of Lammasingi.
A senior police officer with city traffic police wing said as police have intensified drives against the illegal bike racings, the racing groups have shifted their venue to parts of Vizag Agency. The racing is a passion for some engineering and management students, IT Professionals, BPO employees and few others. As racing has turned passion and also source of income, the students, youngsters and others engaged into the illegal sport to meet their lavish life style, he added. Sources said that the bikers have been practicing the stunts at isolated places in Vizag city and later shift to the Agency.
