Burglars take 57 sovereigns gold from homeopathy doctor's house in Lawspet

Puducherry: Thieves broke into the house of Latha, a homeopathy doctor and took away 57 sovereigns of gold jewellery and some silver tumblers from the house at Krishna Nagar in Lawspet.

According to the police, the doctor had gone for duty after sending her son off to Chennai. Her husband Peter had gone to Mahe. When she returned at noon after duty, she found the door broken open and the house ransacked. The miscreants broken the lock of the grill at the back side and opened the back door to gain entry.

About 57 sovereigns of gold ornaments and two silver tumblers were stolen. Lawspet police were immediately and they registered a case and started investigation with sniffer dogs and a fingerprints expert.

Speaker V Vaithilingam visited the house on Wednesday and inquired with them as Krishna Nagar falls in his constituency. The house of the principal of Pondicherry Engineering College had also been burgled in the same manner last week when about 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 5 lakh were stolen from the house in Lawspet.
