Salem: A man was found murdered on the railway track near Salem on Tuesday. Police suspect that the body was thrown on the rail track to show it as the outcome of a train accident.
The loco pilot of the Salem to Virurdhachalam train spotted the trunk of a man and severed head at Ponnamapettai railway gate near Salem on Tuesday morning when the train crossed the area.
He quickly alerted local police after halting the train. A team of police men rushed to the spot and inspected the body.
According to police, the man was murdered at a nearby bush, where bloodstains were found and the head and trunk thrown on the rail track to make it look like a train accident.
The body has been sent for post-mortem. The passenger train departed after one hour due to the incident. Local residents complain that many such murders happen in this region and police throw bodies on the railway track. They demanded a detailed inquiry to prevent such incidents in future.
