70-year-old held for murdering 66-year-old paramour

Ensuring that the field owner was away, he axed Balamma, doused her body with petrol and burnt it

Hyderabad: A 70-year-old man was arrested by the Balapur police on Tuesday for allegedly murdering a 66-year-old woman he was in a relationship with, burning her body and disposing of the ashes in a drain.

The police said that the incident took place in October, when the accused, K. Ramulu, invited Borra Balamma to a field in Balapur on the pretext of returning her money.

Ensuring that the field owner was away, he axed Balamma, doused her body with petrol and burnt it. Later, he collected the ashes and bones and disposed of them.

Balamma’s family had filed a police complaint on November 27, stating that she was missing since October 27.

The police said that they came to know about Ramulu, who had sexual relations with Balamma and six other women in the village. Due to a lack of evidence, Ramulu was not arrested.

However, another woman Ramulu had a relationship with, identified as K. Lalitha, told the police during questioning that Ramulu had recently gifted her gold and silver ornaments.

Balamma’s relatives immediately identified the jewellery as that worn by the missing person, following which the police interrogated Ramulu.

He confessed to the crime and was booked for murder, disposing of evidence and misleading police probe, the police said.
