Bengaluru: Gangster turned activist and writer Agni Sreedhar on Monday alleged “harassment” and “police excesses” by Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemant Nimbalkar during a raid on his house on February 7.
Sreedhar also met DG&IGP R.K. Datta and submitted a memorandum listing out the excesses. Sreedhar, addressing the media, said that he was falsely booked under the Arms Act and alleged unfair treatment by the police, especially Nimbalkar.
He has sought a CID probe into the issue within seven days and has threatened to move court seeking a CBI inquiry if the state government fails to respond.
He said that guns recovered from his house were licensed and belonged to his bodyguards, while the machetes were used during the shooting of Thamassu movie in 2010. “I tried to explain this to Nimbalkar, but he did not listen. When I said I have a licence for the guns, instead of enquiring about it, he said no way a rowdy sheeter could have a licensed gun.”
Sreedhar said that Nimbalkar abused him using foul language and accused him of sheltering contract killers from North India, referring to his bodyguards. “Before raiding my house, Nimbalkar had informed the visual media, only to defame me and my organisation, Karunadu Sene,” he said, and alleged that it was an attempt to destroy his organisation.
On February 3, two people shot at Dasanahalli APMC president Kadabagere Srinivas near Kogilu Cross. Rohit alias Vonte Rohit, who is associated with Karunadu Sene, was identified as the main suspect.
Following inputs that Sreedhar could be sheltering him, the police raided his house. Though the police did not find Rohit, they recovered guns and machetes among other things.
‘Tata Ramesh’s tale is a lie’
Sreedhar said that Srinivas’s close associate businessman Tata Ramesh's allegations that he received threat calls from Rohit and Sunil are concocted and is a lie.
“Ramesh’s police complaint is fake. I challenge the police to prove the case,” Sridhar said.
