Nellore: In a ghastly road accident, 8 persons crushed to death, 7 of them on the spot, when a speeding tempo traveller vehicle rammed into a truck on the Mumbai Highway close to Damaramadugu village near Nellore during the wee hours of Sunday.
According to Circle Inspector of Buchireddypalem, B. Suewah Babu, there were 14 people in the ill-fated tempo and 13 of them belong to Chennai city and the driver hails from Nellore. The Chennai residents were returning home after worshipping at the holy shrine in Srisailam.
The mishap took place when the driver of the tempo failed to notice a truck parked on the roadside and rammed into the vehicle from behind. While 7 persons were killed on the spot, one person breathed his last while being shifted to the hospital.
Buchireddypalem police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured and the deceased to the government general hospital in Nellore. They had a tough time in extracting the bodies from the mauled tempo. Police suspect that the negligence of the driver of tempo traveller led to the mishap.
