Nine arrested with 2.3 kg ganja and 13 bottles of cough syrup variants in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT) LB Nagar zone team along with LB Nagar police arrested nine persons and seized 2.3 kilograms of ganja and 13 bottles of cough syrup variants from their possession.
Among the nine arrested, three were identified as Md Naseer, Adelly Rakesh and Auki Prasanth, owner of Sai Ram Medical shop in Mansoorabad. “They were illegally selling cough syrup which is prohibited to be sold over the counter without proper prescription,” police said adding that Prasanth was collecting double the market price and illegally selling the cough syrup to youth.
The others who were arrested were reported to be consumers-cum-peddlers, the police said.
During interrogation, the trio revealed that they were procuring the cough syrup through online app by creating fake login ID and addresses and place order for codeine-based syrup bottles.
“The drug consumers are adopting various methods to procure the banned substance. Consumers and sellers will be booked under appropriate sections of the law. Police will take stringent action on drug traffickers and consumers,” D. S. Chauhan, Rachakonda police commissioner said in a press release on Wednesday.
