Hyderabad: Around 20 gamblers were arrested by special operation teams (SOT) of Adibatla police under section 3, 4 and 5 of TS Gaming Amendment Act 2015. Three of the arrested are bookies operating from the city and suburbs, who are into IPL and football betting.
They were all produced before a court on Wednesday and were subsequently remanded for 14 days in Cherlapally central prison.
SOT had raided a gambling den in Ravirala village on December 26, arrested 20 persons, including punters, seized Rs 7,15,570, a Mahindra car, two bikes and 27 mobile phones from their possession.
One of the accused Gunnala Nirikshan, owned the premises, while the gambling activities were organised by the other accused Ponna Jithendhar from Aliabad.
“During the preliminary investigations we learnt that Jitendher and his associates were involved in three similar cases in other police stations in Moghalpura and in the south zone," a police officer said.
