Protest erupts at Kasturba College
Hyderabad: Parents of several students gathered at the Kasturba Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women in West Marredpally and alleged that three students who had fallen sick on Tuesday. They alleged that it was due to delayed complications of the incident last month, when 50 girl students fell sick after inhaling gas reportedly emanating from a garbage pile nearby.
The parents alleged that the college was not taking responsibility for the incident of November 18.
When college representatives said the students had again fallen sick due to stench emanating from the garbage pile, an argument broke out between the parents and the management.
The angry parents alleged that the management was not taking any responsibility for the students’ condition, especially as three students were still suffering from the complications.
On November 18, about 50 girl students complained of breathlessness, sore throat and vomiting sensation. Fearing a gas leak, the college authorities called ambulance services and many students were carried on stretchers. The students were subsequently discharged.
Post the incident last month, as per a statement issued by the college, GHMC sanitation workers who were at the garbage dump accidently broke a bottle containing a chemical, which had resulted in emission of a gas which caused the students’ symptoms. The two sanitation workers had also experienced similar symptoms as the students.
