Hyderabad: Though crime rate increased by 6.86 per cent this year, Rachakonda police commissionerate tops in the state in terms of overall convictions rate that has improved to 61 per cent from 51. By achieving a record 89 per cent convictions for grave offences, the commissionerate topped in the country.
Rachakonda police commissionerate, the country's largest in the category, caters to 62 lakh rural and urban population of 62 lakh with four law and order zones.
“Our main vision is a distinctive policing, quick response and technology use,” G. Sudheer Babu, Rachakonda police commissioner said while releasing the jurisdiction’s 2023 annual crime report here on Wednesday.
The three pillars of the vision are crucial for effective implementation of improved police services and ensuring the safety of the citizens, Sudheer Babu said.
“Simultaneously we will also focus on basic policing, prevention of crime, maintaining law and order and detecting crime on a priority basis,” he said.
Sudheer Babu said that priority was for ensuring women’s safety, and the fight against the drug menace, cyber and organised crimes.
2023 achievements:
Conviction rate has been of a very high order. Rachakonda stands one of the best in the country this year as the conviction rate in grave offences has been 89 per cent.
Around 8,981 cases were compounded in the lok adalat while 90,023 petty and MV Act cases were disposed of.
Over 62 offenders involved in drug trafficking, robbery, automobile thefts and grave offences were detained under the PD Act.
Movements of 12 PD NDPS peddlers were intercepted and '62 lakh worth banned substances was seized for model code violation.
Police shut down 21 gaming dens.
The women safety wing, along with other departments, prevented 100 child marriages and detained 50 persons under the PD Act.
Other crimes: In 2022, 22,815 cases were reported while this year it was 27, 586.
Murder for gain cases were six as against the four in 2022
There were 47 robbery and chain snatching cases in 2022, which increased to 59 in 2023.
Kidnapping cases increased by 6.33 percent this year while last year it was 395.
Automobile thefts increased by 31.30 percent in 2023 with 27,586 cases reported till November 30.
There has been a significant 7.16 per cent reduction in domestic violence cases from last year’s 1,704 cases to 1582 cases in 2023.
Molestation and POCSO cases rose by 4.84 per cent with 1,115 cases.
The most sensational case was of Perala Hari Hara Krishna (921) killing his friend Nenavath Naveen (22) suspected that he would interfere in his love affair. Hari strangulated Naveen in Abdullapurmet and removed his body parts, including private parts, heart and fingers.
