Bengaluru: Cab gang strikes again, techie abducted, robbed of valuables
BENGALURU: A software firm employee, who had an emergency to attend to, was abducted by four men in a private cab, taken around the city and was robbed of gold chain, two rings and cash Rs 15,000 before being abandoned. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm on Friday when Karthick, who hails from Tamil Nadu and is a resident of Electronics City, was heading home, after receiving a call from his pregnant wife that the delivery was anytime soon. Karthick told Deccan Chronicle, "I live in Electronics City Phase II and work for a leading multinational company. I was waiting for the transport to go home. A cab came and stopped near me. There were four people sitting inside. I took the cab as I was in a hurry and told them where I needed a drop"
He said, "The driver and the person sitting in the front started to behave suspiciously. The driver made signals and soon turned the music volume high. I got alerted and by the time I could do something, the two men who were pretending to be travellers threatened me to part with my gold chain and rings. The man sitting in the front seat took my mobile and asked me to give him my ATM PIN number."
The gang took him to a secluded place behind La Classic Hotel and discussed their plan. The gang then moved towards Balagaranahalli, where one of them got down to withdraw the money. The others, in order to avoid being caught, went around the city before returning to pick up their accomplice, who had withdrawn Rs 15,000 from the HDFC Bank ATM. The gang later abandoned Karthick on Attibele Service Road.
On Saturday, when Karthick tried to lodge a complaint with Parappana Agrahara police, they directed him to another police station citing jurisdictional issues. On Saturday, when Deccan Chronicle took up the matter with the higher-ups, the Prappanna Agrahara police called the victim to lodge the complaint.
