Hyderabad: Five blast accused to be sent to Mumbai
Hyderabad: The five accused in the Lumbini Park–Gokul chat twin blasts terror, currently lodged at the Cherlapally Jail whose fate will be decided on September 4, will be sent to Mumbai to face trial for another series of terror blasts in which they are being accused.
The accused who will be sent are Mohammed Shafique, Amir Reza Khan, Aniqee, Ismail Chowdhari, Farookh Sharfuddin Tarkash post the verdict. Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal are also accused but are absconding.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Cherlapally prison superintendent M. R. Bhaskar, said, “On Monday, we were requested by the Session’s court to present the twin blast accused to attend a video conference. But they were notified that their verdict date was postponed. The next date for the verdict is September 4, but we are yet to receive information with regard to the medium it will be announced in. The possibilities could be face-to-face inside the prison courtroom or via conference call with the judge positioned at the Nampally court.
He said, “Once the verdict is announced, extraction procedures will commence with regard to the five accused regardless of whether they are convicted or acquitted. The procedures may not be immediate due to the need to ensure highest security in the transportation.”
Till then the Cherlapally prison will accommodate them in a high risk-anticipated cell, with exhaustive security measures. The accused were shifted from Chanchalguda to Cherlapally Prison three months before the judgment date as, only this jail has the facility to house the men in isolation units that meet the specific requirements to house high risk prisoners. The accused are each placed in a single-roomed cell under one enclosure that is completely segregated from the general population of the prison. Each cell has a television.
The accused are restricted from participating in prison activities like working, playing or wandering freely. If they request, they are accompanied by an officer one at a time to visit the prison library during the day time. Three meals are provided directly to their cells and every evening from 6.30 pm, they are confined to their cells and movement is restricted until the next day. The accused have followed this timetable for the last three months.
