Woman jumps into Durgam Cheruvu
Hyderabad: A 29-year-old woman, identified as Swapna, attempted suicide at the cable-stayed bridge at Durgam Cheruvu on Wednesday afternoon. Police identified her from the medical records in a bag that she had left behind on the bridge. Madhapur inspector P. Ravindra Prasad said a search was on in the lake for Swapna. Police said she was taking treatment for depression. Visitors on the bridge noticed a woman dressed in black jumping in the lake at about 3 pm, and alerted the lake police. The police started a search operation and were joined in by the GHMC’s DRF teams.
From the woman's bag, police found a phone number. When they called the number, a woman who identified herself Ajitha answered. Given the details, she identified the woman as her sister Swapna.
Swapna had married one Naresh a year ago but the couple separated. Since she slipped into depression and on Wednesday left home stating that was going to the hospital for a check-up.
