Hyderabad: Miyapur police arrested a car driver, Shankari Dayakar, 33, for alleged involvement in 10 cases of vehicle theft and recovered 16 stolen two-wheelers from his possession. Police said he was found moving in suspicious circumstances near the Miyapur Metro Rail station, from where he intended steal two-wheelers, when he was arrested.
Police said Dayakar of Indrakaran village of Sangareddy district, used to steal on old vehicles as their locks are easier to break. Police said that he had first come to notice with the theft of a bike in Sangareddy in 2013. He had since stolen nine vehicles in Miyapur police station limits, one in Bhanoor, Sangareddy district, and six vehicles in other districts, Nandyala Narsimha Reddy, additional deputy commissioner of police, said.
Police appealed to motorists to change and upgrade the locks on their old vehicles and if possible to use a double-lock system. They said vehicles should be parked at authorized parking areas which are under CCTV surveillance.
