Crimes against foreigners increases in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Crimes against foreigners doubled in 2021 even as 44 crimes were committed by foreign nationals during the year.

While across the country, crimes against foreigners declined from 277 in 2019, 127 in 2020 and 121 in 2021, in Telangana they rose from two in 2019, seven in 2020 and 15 in 2021, according to the ‘Crime In India 2021’ report released by NCRB. Among the national cases, 14 were rapes, nine murders, 15 cases of outraging modesty of women in 2021

Meanwhile, crimes committed by foreign nationals in state increased marginally from 47 cases in 2019, to 34 in 2020, and 40 in 2021.

Among these, two cases were related to human trafficking, one each of robbery and theft, 11 cheating cases, seven involving drugs, one under Passport Act and six cases under the Information Technology Act.
