DCA seizes fake critical drugs for BP, Obesity
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Friday busted a spurious drug racket that was manufacturing fake antibiotics, medicines for control of hypertension and cholesterol, analgesics and selling them under the name of well-known brands. The officials seized stocks worth Rs 26 lakh.
On a tip-off that spurious drugs were being shipped through a courier company, officials raided the offices of Trackon Couriers Pvt. Ltd at Dilsukhnagar and Uppal and found that two parcels, one weighing 14.5 kgs and the 13.34 kgs, labelled machine parts had been booked at Kashipur, Uttarakhand, by Amar Pharmaceuticals, Ramnagar Road, Kashipur and had been delivered to Puvvada Lakshman here.
DCA officials took police assistance to trace Lakshman through his mobile number and caught him at a bar near a theatre in Dilsukhnagar. DCA officials raided Lakshman’s godown – Sri Venkateswara Enterprises, Dwarakapuram, Disukhnagar —and found the spurious drugs that he had received via courier.
On interrogation, Lakshman revealed the names of his accomplices as Pokala Ramesh and Garapalli Purnachander of Saidabad. He also revealed that he had received spurious drugs from Nadeem of Uttarakhand.
The fake medicines were labelled as being manufactured by ‘Meg Lifesciences, Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh’ which was found to be a fictitious company.
