Shepherd beheaded at Buttayigudem
KAKINADA: The gruesome murder of a small-time farmer-cum-shepherd by unidentified assailant(s) was reported from Jaggisettigudem of Buttayigudem mandal of West Godavari district on Thursday. Unumula Parvathalu (61) was killed when he was sleeping in his agriculture fields.
According to Buttayigudem police, Parvathalu took his dinner and went to his agriculture fields to tend his flock on Wednesday might. On Thursday morning, when his phone was ringing without response, a passer-by walked in and found Parvathalu’s torso on the bed, with blood all around.
He informed the deceased’s family members and some villagers. The Polavaram DSP Lathakumari and a team of policemen went to the spot and started an investigation. The dog squad found an axe near a pond in a nearby village.
The police suspect the incident may have occurred between 10 pm and 11 pm on Wednesday night. Financial transactions or property disputes may be the motive for the murder as the deceased was a small-time moneylender, police said. The Buttayigudem police registered a case based on a complaint from the deceased's son Nagaraju. His family consisted of wife, three sons and two daughters with their spouses.
