3 of doctor’s family end lives in Andhra Pradesh

Police said the family owed creditors about Rs 15 crore and was under pressure to repay.

KAKINADA: Three members of an orthopaedic doctor’s family ended their lives at Amalapuram on Friday in a suicide pact due to financial distress. It is said that Dr P. Ramakrishnam Raju, 55, and his family ended their lives early in the day but their bodies were found when the staff of the hospital they owned went to their house at about 11.30 am to look for them.

Dr Raju, his wife Lakshmi Devi, 45, and their elder son Dr Krishna Sandeep, 25, who had completed his MBBS, reportedly administered themselves midazolam, which is used for anaesthesia, and succinylcholine, an intravenous muscle relaxant, through saline.

Dr Raju had called his second son Vamsi Krishna, who is doing his MBBS at the GSL Hospital in Rajanag-aram, East Godavari, to come home on Fri-day, but he was delayed. Police said the family owed creditors about Rs 15 crore and was under pressure to repay.
