HYDERABAD: A 21-year-old employee working in a private firm died by suicide in Amberpet due to fear after watching the Telugu horror movie Mangalvaaram.
According to the Amberpet police, Jitender downloaded the movie from his cousin Tumma Praveen Kumar's mobile on December 26 at his residence in Srinivasa Nagar, Amberpet.
After Praveen left, Jitender watched the movie and, later that night, locked his bedroom door from the inside. He then died by suicide, the police said. Jitender, employed at Nagole Metro Rail Station, died on Friday night while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital (OGH), where he was admitted after his father, Chandraiah, broke open the door.
Jitender's father found him with severe burns, and despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. Jitender's dying declaration and his response to his family members revealed that he decided to end his life due to the fear induced by watching the horror movie.
Police have registered a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) and shifted the victim's body to the OGH morgue for post-mortem examination.
