Man Kills Wife, Surrenders before Cops
Hyderabad: A man killed his wife after a quarrel at his house in Bank Colony late on Monday night and surrendered, the Uppal police said on Tuesday. Police said the accused, Bukhya Ramesh, pinned his wife B. Kamala, 29, to the ground and stamped her throat with his foot.
The children of the couple had gone to their grandmother’s place in Jangaon for summer vacation. The couple had married in 2016 and had two children.
The couple started arguing after Ramesh suspected Kamala of having an affair. Kamala suspected that Ramesh had an extramarital affair with a woman in Jangaon, police said.
Police registered a case of murder and shifted the victim's body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Tree on hospital campus crashes on couple, 1 dead
Hyderabad: A man died and his wife was seriously injured when a gulmohar tree fell on them at the Cantonment Hospital in Bolaram on Tuesday. It was suspected that the wet soil had caused the tree to fall.
The victim was identified as Ravinder, 45, and the survivor as his wife Saraladevi, 38, a resident of Alwal. They were entering the hospital when the tree fell on them, police said. Ravinder died on the spot while Saraladevi, a schoolteacher, suffered severe head injuries. She was taken to the Gandhi Hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.
“I have never seen anything like this before. It was a big tree and it suddenly crashed. We initially thought someone had cut the tree but later realised it had fallen due to wet soil,” an eyewitness said.
“We have cut down three fragile trees that posed a threat to people on the campus. However, the particular tree appeared to be in good condition, otherwise, we would have brought it down as well,” said Dr Ramakrishna of the Cantonment Hospital.
He said the falling tree had crushed Ravinder's chest. Sarladevi was administered first aid and sent to the Gandhi Hospital,” he said.
Officials of the horticulture department arrived at the scene and took a sample of the tree. An official said gulmohar trees were prone to falling after rain. “They fall after rains because their roots are shallow. Whenever the soil gets wet, it becomes loose and makes it easier for the trees to be uprooted. It's always important for people to be careful around gulmohar trees after rains,” said a horticulture department supervisor.
“This is the first time we have seen any tree falling and causing death. With monsoons around the corner, we need to be alert and take this as a serious warning. We will try to provide possible help for the deceased's family,” said Cantonment CEO Madhukar Naik.
100 Goa-bound tourists dumped on road, driver flees with key
Hyderabad: At least 100 bus passengers headed for Goa for a vacation from the city had a harrowing time as the driver and the conductor of their private travels bus abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled with keys at Ramachandrapuram road, police said.
The passengers who had booked tickets through Om Sai Travels were stranded in the bus without a driver for two hours early on Tuesday. Police were called and they spoke to the bus owner and made alternative arrangements for the passengers.
According to Ramachandrapuram inspector G. Jagannadh, Om Sai Travels had informed the passengers to board the bus from LB Nagar. The driver and conductor refused to pick up the passengers from LB Nagar and insisted that they board a separate bus from Miyapur.
When the passengers boarded the bus, they complained about a foul smell and insisted that they be accommodated in the previous bus which was in good condition, police said.
The driver and the conductor refused and asked the passengers to talk to the travel company. The duo left the passengers in the bus on Ashoknagar road and took the ignition keys with them, police said.
“We have registered a case and are trying to identify the driver and the conductor,” the inspector said.
