Odisha Man Who Married 5, Dated 49 Women for Money, Arrested

Accused youth fell in the police trap after a lady inspector posed herself as prospective bride

Bhubaneswar: A 34-year-old man in Odisha was arrested on Saturday for cheating over 50 women in the pretext of marriage. Satyajit Managovind Samal, the accused, married at least five women and was in a relationship with over 49 other females.

According to Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police, the accused Satyajit used to dupe victims on the matrimonial website by posing himself as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer. Samal hails from Jajpur district and was staying in Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar.

He was apprehended after a trap laid by Commissionerate Police.

Sources said a lady officer interacted with the Samal as a prospective bride and lured him into a trap. The devil soul who used to fly to Dubai after duping women to avoid arrest, could not imagine that he will this time get locked in the prison cell instead of succeeding in getting into another wedlock.

Samal was taken into custody as soon as he landed in Bhubaneswar to marry the lady police officer.

The police tracked Samal after two victims lodged complaints here at Capital Police station. He had duped the first victim to the tune of Rs 36 lakh for a car and Rs 8 lakh and a bullet from the second victim.

Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda on Saturday informed that the accused subsequently used to engage the vehicles on hire and used to mint money as well.

“After establishing links with the victims on matrimonial websites, the accused used to chat with them. Once they believed his words, he would extract cash, vehicles and other valuables by his sweet talks. After committing the crime, Satyajit used to move to Dubai and spend time there,” said Panda.

During verification, it was found that Satyajit was involved in chatting with 49 more girls on the matrimonial website. Apart from this, police have seized two marriage agreement documents.

“The accused used to target divorcees and used to chat with them on matrimonial websites. After entering into a marriage agreement, he used to take cash and vehicles from the victims,” said Panda.

The accused would flee to Dubai after extracting money from victims. Hence, it was very challenging to arrest him. A trap was laid and the accused could not escape this time,” said the Commissioner.

A senior police official informed that Rs 2 lakh cash along with some vehicles were seized from the accused. Apart from this, Rs 1 lakh in his bank account has also been freezed.
