TMC Man Murdered in WB; Injured BJP Worker Dies

Kolkata: In yet another instance of post-poll violence in West Bengal, a Trinamul Congress worker was murdered allegedly by BJP workers at Hariharpara in Murshidabad. The victim, Sanatan Ghosh (40), was a milkman by profession.

He was returning home at Paragram riding his motorcycle on Sunday night from Gajanipur village. A gang of armed miscreants stopped him on the road at around 12 am and fired several rounds at him.

Later police and locals rescued Sanatan with bullet injuries and admitted him at Hariharpara Rural Hospital from where he was shifted to Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital. The TMC worker succumbed to injuries later. The body was sent for post-mortem.

The cops also recovered five bullets from the spot. Although TMC retained the Murshidabad parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha Election with a lead from Hariharpara assembly constituency, BJP had a lead at Gajanipur this time.

Hariharpara TMC MLA Niyamat Sheikh accused the BJP of carrying out the murder. The victim's family members lodged an FIR at the Hariharpara police station against many BJP workers also.

SP(Murshidabad) Surya Prasad Yadav however brushed aside the political angle behind the murder. He said that the murder was the outcome of a revenge of another killing three years ago.

Meanwhile a BJP worker, Tapan Dhali, died in East Midnapore. He was injured along with two others during a blast while making bombs in a group of at least 10 people at a house in Takapura of Nandigram on June 5. Dhali, a villager of Khejuri, was admitted at Tamluk Hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Sunday night.
