Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday directed the state government to strictly implement the Union government’s guidelines to curb the spread of Omicron in the State. It sought the government to submit a compliance report on January 4, indicating the action taken against protocol violators.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice N. Tukaramji was dealing with a batch of PILs and petitions related to measures being taken to combat Covid-19.
Advocates Chikkudu Prabhakar and Kovvuturi Pawan Kumar brought to the notice of the court that the state government had issued a GO relaxing its liquor policy, which could lead to a surge in Omicron cases.
However, the bench refused to impose restrictions on New Year celebrations but made it clear that the guidelines had to be followed.
The bench also brushed aside the contentions of the counsels that containment zones were important while stating that “In Telangana, the situation is normal and hence there is no need to create containment zones.”
