Visakhapatnam: Designers promote handlooms

City-based fashion designing students will come up with one special collection made out of waste products.

Visakhapatnam: City-based fashion designing students will come up with one special collection made out of waste products in a bid to create awareness on cleanliness on the designers show to be held on February 25 at Andhra University Convocation Hall. The designer show “iti-2K17” to be organised by Queenz Institute of Fashion will showcase Andhra handlooms and handicrafts and to give a suitable platform to fashion design students to showcase their designing and creative abilities to the public.

“Visakhapatnam has emerged as one of the smartest and cleanest cities of India. We will project how our city has bounced back after Hudhud in an Impractical Wear. We have also paid tribute to our Visakhapa-tnam GVMC authorities through our collections who are keeping our city clean and smart,” informed the students. The organisers said the main mission of the show is to revive the present look of the handicrafts and handlooms like Chir-ala, Venkatagiri, Manga-lagiri and Dharmavaram. “We have tried to give total new look to our traditional textiles and handicrafts which will not only fetch national and international markets but also uplift the diminishing handloom industry. This show will bring a new air of design and growth to Andhra handloom weavers,” the organiser informed.

Queenz Institute of Fashion Management said every year students graduate from different courses and submit their portfolio to graduate. In this process of portfolio presentation they design dresses to exhibit their design capabilities through this show. This show will concentrate on all Andhra Pradesh traditional textiles like Venkatagiri, Mangalagiri and Dharmavaram hand techniques like crochet of Narsapur and Kalamkari prints, handicrafts like Etikoppaka and Kondapalli toys as embellishments and trimmings and showcasing the age-old textiles and craft culture of Andhra Pradesh. The organisers said it is going to be a unique platform to showcase designs.
