Union Budget 2016: Thumbs up for Startups

Budget highlights need to promote new enterprises.

Kozhikode: It was a moment to cherish for the thousands of startups working in and around the country when Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the financial budget of the year that highlighted the need of promoting new enterprises in the country.

Not just focusing on announcing attractive benefits financially, the minister has paid extra attention to fundamental schemes for nurturing the startup trend in the country.

Prominent figures in the startup sector applauded the attempt of the Central Government that has put the startup space in India on a wider scale. The state, which has already started a movement to promote startups, is now viewed as an inspiration for the rest of the country, they opined.

For startup companies, incubators and related programmes are a necessary process to undergo and hence the schemes announced in the budget could really help them in their growth. The intention is laudable and the budget looks to provide some very important steps to accomplish ease of doing business, taxation and access to skills, they said.

However, at the same time, there were some apprehensions as well. Akhil George, a startup CEO from Kozhikode, expressed doubts on the reliability of the budget in the growth of startups. “Whatever we have heard from the Central budget and the State budget, have been soothing to our ears and they will turn fruitful for startups only if the announcded steps are implemented,” he pointed out.
