Karnataka CM announces 17 per cent salary hike to Govt employees

The CM stated to have conceded to two main demands and urged the agitating employees to withdraw their strike

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday announced a 17 per cent salary hike for State Government employees as an interim relief.

The announcement from the Chief Minister came after the State Government Employees Association began agitation from Wednesday pressing for fulfillment of their demands which include 7th Pay Commission and withdrawal of National Pension Scheme (NPS).

After the meeting with office-bearers of the Government Employees Association and officials concerned of the Finance department, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated to have conceded to their two main demands and urged the agitating employees to withdraw their strike.

The Chief Minister told reporters in Bengaluru that an order 7th Pay Commission has been appointed and as an interim relief 17 percent salary hike order will be issued. Regarding NPS, CM said NPS in other States, financial repercussions will be studied and the Additional Chief Secretary will head a Committee and submit to the State Government in two-months.

Meanwhile, State Government Employees Association president C.S. Shadakshari said “There is no question of withdrawal of agitation by the State Government Employees unless an order is issued on 7th Pay Commission and also on NPS as well. Unless we see the order of both the demands, nothing can be said. We will wait for the order to be issued.”

He added that future course of action would be decided after going through the order on both the demands of the State Government Employees. “I will meet officials concerned of the Finance department to fulfill the demands,” he said.
