2 mega events to keep Vizag cops busy
Visakhapatnam: The shifting of six IPL-2016 matches to Vizag must come as a tough act for the Vizag police to see through to the end. The shortage of manpower and the heat of summer are major problems for the smooth conduct of the cricket matches. What’s more, the Chandana Yatra of Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha of Simhachalam temple is also scheduled for May 9.
Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy ACA-VDCA cricket stadium will be the venue for matches played by the Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants on May 8, 10, 13, 15, 17 and 21 and at least 28,000 spectators, including some VVIPs and VIPs, will attend each and every match. Around two lakh devotees will have a darshan of Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha on May 9.
A senior police officer said on condition of anonymity that the city cops would have a busy schedule in May, with two mega events upon them. “We have to prepare a plan to handle all the events peacefully,” he said. He said that additional forces from the neighbouring districts would be called for traffic regulations.
