Hyderabad: Lad Bazaar structure bulldozed
Hyderabad: Demolition of part of a new construction at the corner of Lad Bazaar-Khilwat Palace Road has been hotly contested by the owner who says that his building is not violating any rules, and also asked whether his is the only building that has violated building rules.
Officials of the GHMC circle no. 9 demolished part of a newly-constructed building at Moti Galli Chowrasta on Monday because it was allegedly constructed without leaving a setback. One floor was also allegedly constructed additionally against the approved plan. Inside the building a new cloth shop, Rajesh Silks House, was all set to open on Sunday.
MIM lawmaker Mumtaz Ahmed Khan personally supervised the demolition, which has been objected to by some members of the business community.
The owner of Rajesh Silks House, Rajesh Kumar Malpani, said that GHMC officials had not raised any objection during the construction of the structure, nor had they served him prior notice of the demolition. He said he was astonished to see the MLA supervising the demolition and giving instructions to the officials.
Mr Malpani said he has been targeted due to business rivalry. He claims that the building was constructed according to the approved plan but he was not given an opportunity to show the documents.
He asked whether his building was the only one that was constructed in violation of the approved plan. Why did the GHMC not demolish other buildings that were constructed without an approved plan and in violation of building norms? If the GHMC had taken action against these other buildings that violated the rules, he would accept the action of the civic body against his building, he contended.
He said in the small shops that were demolished, he was going to rehabilitate two Muslim vendors who were doing their business on the road in front of his building, without demanding any advance or levying heavy tenancy amount on them. He asked whether the MLA and corporator will ensure prompt action against all illegal structures in the area.
