Sunday witnessed a stormy night with heavy rain

Heavy rain pounds Hyderabad, more rain predicted in next 4 days

HYDERABAD: The week ended with a summer night turning into a stormy one as heavy rains lashed the entire city with lightning and thunderstorms on Sunday night.

What started as a light drizzle late evening ended up into downpour for more than two hours, affecting the visibility as many of the roads were water–logged and several areas submerged in water including Habeeb Nagar, Yousufguda, Rajendranagar, Gudimalkapur, Chilakguda, Kavadiguda, Begumpet, Himayathnagar, Sahikpet, MAlakpet, Champapart, Sanath Nagar, Raj Bhavan, Assembly, Osmani University campus, ECIL, LB Nagar and more.

Many trees were uprooted and traffic came to a standstill on the arterial roads and flyovers in the city, especially in the areas such as Hitech City, Gachibowli, Raidurgam, Lakdi Ka Pul, Cyberabad. Around 43 trees fell in 16 areas which were water-logged till today morning, when the EVDM workers cleared them.

As rains pounded the city, one death was also reported. A grey hound constable died in Jubilee Hills area due to electrocution in the heavy rain last night.

The city recorded a heavy rainfall of 106 mm in Shaikpet, 96.8 mm in Serilingampally and 82.0 mm in Uppal last night, said the TS Development and Planning Society report.

The state received a very heavy rainfall of 123.5 mm in Jangaon, followed by Yadadri Bhuvanagiri 119.5 mm and Hyderabad stood third in the state with 106 mm rainfall.

More rains are predicted for the state by the IMD over the next four days with a yellow warning.
