Chennai: Nesamani t-shirts become big hit
Chennai: A day after ‘#Pray for Nesamani’ took the Twitter world by storm, T-shirt dealers and traders have begun to cash in on the celluloid character’s instant popularity.
A number of T-shirt dealers, including Fully Filmy, Crazy Punch and Knitwear has begun sales of shirts with quirky tagline and images.
The innocent query of a man from Pakistan about a hammer kicked off a series of hilarious responses and the hashtag soon trended in India. Prayers and well-wishes for the fictional character contractor Nesamani poured in from all parts of the world on Thursday with several celebrities and noted personalities joining in the fun. Several Twitter users made use of the thread to make light of important events in the past.
The paradoxical hashtag soon trended worldwide and the micro-blogging site was filled with hilarious memes under the hashtag #pray for Nesamani.
‘Contractor Nesamani’ is a character essayed by veteran comedian Vadivelu in the 2001 film ‘Friends’. In the film, he plays the role of a contractor who tries, rather unsuccessfully to manage his team of workers, one of whom accidentally drops a hammer on his head.
Meanwhile, the original Nesamani, actor Vadivelu seemed clueless about his sudden social media popularity and was quoted as saying,” I am happy to make the whole world laugh.”
