Rajasthan: Women commission chief takes selfie with rape survivor, violates law
Jaipur: They were supposed to inquire about the incident and provide healing touch to the survivor of gang rape but chair person of Rajasthan State Women Commission (RSWC) Suman Sharma and her colleague Somya Gurjar rendered it into a publicity stunt.
In a clear violation of law and without any sensitiveness to the rape survivor, Somya Gurjar who is also member of the commission took selfies with the victim during their visit to women police station (North) on Tuesday.
Two pictures showing Gurjar taking selfies while Suman Sharma instead of stopping Gurjar is being seen peeking in with a happy face have gone viral on WhatsApp.
When the pictures triggered controversy, Sharma in her defence said, “I was not aware that Somya was taking selfie as I was busy talking to the victim at that time.” However, the pictures contradicts her as, she is clearly seen looking into the frame of the mobile device while Gurjar was taking the selfie.
Criticised for taking selfie with rape survivour, Saumya Gujjar resigned on Thursday. But, defended her action saying, “It was just an attempt to make the victim feel at ease and for the record as it was alleged that the accused had written abuse on her forehead.” The NCW has issued notice to the RSWC for clicking the selfie.
