Urea used to make bombs

An official from the City Security Wing (CSW) said that urea contains about 46 per cent nitrogen.

Hyderabad: Procuring raw material for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) has become very easy for terrorists as most of the ingredients are available in the open market.

The main material used by terror operatives is urea. An official from the City Security Wing (CSW) said that urea contains about 46 per cent nitrogen.

“Urea is a white crystalline solid with explosive properties. A bomb can be made with urea and crude oil. For removing the gap between the atoms of this mixture terror operatives use vaseline which is easily available in the market,” he said.

Explaining the trigger, he said, “The mixture requires a detonator. Various kinds of circuits are available in the open market which is being used by terror operators.”

A decade ago, terrorists used mobile phone circuits for exploding bombs but now they are using timer technology. “The mobile phone's vibration circuit gets completed when the terror operative makes a call to the mobile connected to the IED. But, in timers, the IED automatically explodes after a certain time fixed by the IED makers,” he said.

The official said that terrorists were also using gelatin sticks and neo-gel-90. The official said that bombs made with wheat flour and sugar were of low intensity. “But the glass pieces, nuts, nails and bolts in the bomb can kill,” he said.
