We did not uproot trees: University of Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad on Thursday blamed the “ignorance and over-enthusiasm” of workers employed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India for uprooting trees on the campus, including the state tree Jammi chettu (Prosopis cineraria), which had attracted lot of criticism. The tree was later replanted.
The UoH allowed HMDA and CREDAI workers to clear vegetation in around 175 acres in the campus to plant saplings as part of the state government’s afforestation programme Telangana ku Haritha Haram. As part of this, trees were also uprooted.
The university said on Thursday that every attempt was being made to restore the trees and that the workers were clearly instructed to ensure that trees were not to be uprooted.
