E-University Act to Revolutionise Education: UGC Chairman
Kakinada: The Union government will introduce the E-University Act in the upcoming session of the Parliament and this will bring about a revolution in the education system in the future, said University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M. Jagadish Kumar.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, he said the concept of E-University would provide education to students even in the remotest corners of the country, adding that students can register in a university and learn from national and international experts online.
If a student enrolled in a degree course also enrolls in the E-University, the student can get nearly 130 to 140 credit points within two and a half years, and these credit points can be added to their regular course.
Jagadish Kumar said nearly five crore students are expected to get admissions in the E-University after the Act is implemented. “The E-University would not just empower education but also aid social and economic empowerment. The National Credit Framework has been established to provide credit points to the students. The NEP will give due recognition to vocational courses as well,” he said.
“Andhra Pradesh is leading the way on the implementation of the National Education Policy. The state is also paying more attention towards skill education and development, which is necessary in the present education system,” Jagadish Kumar said.
He also stressed on the need for other states, including Tamil Nadu, to implement the NEP for the benefit of students as the policy would improve the quality of education.
“The Andhra Pradesh Education Board, Kendriya Vidyalaya and other educational institutions of the Centre as well as the state governments must coordinate based on the NEP in order to get good results. Digital technology is playing a vital role in education and all universities and educational institutions should embrace technology,” he opined.
The UGC chairman also said that there will be changes in subjects as well as syllabus, with inputs from national and international experts, in order to provide quality education to students. The students will also have better employability skills, he said.
AP State Council for Higher Education chairman K. Hemachandra Reddy, education principal secretary J. Syamala Rao, education commissioner Pola Bhaskar, JNTUK vice-chancellor G.V.R. Prasada Raju and others were present.
