Congress Kisan Cell demands financial aid for flood-hit

HYDERABAD: Stating that property worth thousands of crore of rupees had been damaged due to incessant rains in Telangana, Congress Kisan Cell vice-president M. Kodanda Reddy on Monday demanded that the state government provide financial assistance to the victims immediately.

The Congress leaders wrote a letter and submitted a report on the rains to Chief Secretary Santha Kumari at the Secretariat on Monday.

Kodanda Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had failed to handle the flood situation in Telangana. "We have demanded that the Chief Minister provide financial assistance for flood victims. If the government fails, we will stage a protest and no minister will be allowed to move about in Telangana," Kodanda Reddy said.

Hundreds of transformers and agriculture pump sets were submerged in floodwater. People faced difficulties due to floods in Warangal, Hanumakonda, Khammam and Bhadradri districts, he said.

Following TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy's directions, all Congress party cadres and leaders were involved in flood rescue operations at different places.

"More than 50 persons died due to rains and the government must come forward to assist their kin financially. The government also must consider providing '20,000 per acre for paddy farmers and '15,000 per acre for cotton farmers," Kodanda Reddy said
