Kollam vies with metros in crime rate
Kollam: The National Crime Records Bureau statistics show that Kollam tops the list of major cities in the country having the highest rate of crimes in 2015.
The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Kollam were 1194.3 per one lakh population outweighing even the crime capital of Delhi that stands second at 1066.2, followed by Jodhpur with 1038.8.
A total of 13,257 incidents of cognizable crimes were registered with the bureau during last year in Kollam that has a total population of 11.1 lakhs.
Kollam also tops in reported cases of murder among major cities in the state with 18. Kollam is also not behind major cities on the list with 172 incidents of assault on women with the intent to outrage modesty registered as sexual harassment cases with a rate of 15.5.
In Kerala a total of 2,059 cases of attempt to commit culpable homicide which is in the top of the list among all the states.
When it comes to rash driving and injuries caused due to such road accidents, Kerala has recorded a total of 130,907 cases, topping the list in the country with Tamil Nadu in the second place with 54,253 cases, less than half of Kerala.
